Get back to basics with this Five Ingredient Guacamole. This is such a simple recipe to add to your taco night or take to a get together. Once you nail this recipe, you can add in other delicious things such as tomatoes and jalapenos.

If there’s one thing I remember helping make in the kitchen while I was growing up, it would be guacamole! Whether we were having people over or just eating Mexican food for dinner, my mom would let me help make the guac. Fast forward several years later and guacamole is still one of my favorite foods.

I’m thankful she let me help with that because I remember her tasting it after I had mixed some things together and she would tell me whether it would need more salt or lime (aka acid). I now have so much appreciation for that. My recipes are almost always written for you to season to taste and adjust the acid to taste.

There are so many variables in cooking. For instance, the avocados you use for this guacamole might be bigger than the ones I used. Or maybe you’re using a different kind of salt. So the amount of salt and lime juice you need might differ slightly. Always taste it before serving and adjust it to your needs.

The Ingredients

This guacamole only needs five simple ingredients:

  1. Haas Avocados – it’s essential that the avocados you use are ripe!
  2. Onion – finely diced
  3. Cilantro – chopped – you can omit if you don’t like cilantro, but I love the flavor it adds!
  4. Lime Juice – you’ll use the juice from about half a lime to a whole lime (I tend to use the juice of a whole lime)
  5. Salt and Pepper – to taste!

Five Ingredient Guacamole Method

Making Guacamole should only take you a couple of minutes. First, start by cutting your avocados in half lengthwise. Then, carefully remove the pit and use a spoon to scoop the flesh out of the skin and into a bowl. Start smashing the avocado. I love to use a potato masher for this, but you can always just use a fork. Smash until you reach your desired consistency. You can make it super smooth or leave it really chunky if you prefer that.

Next, mix in the finely diced onion, chopped cilantro, one tablespoon of lime juice, and salt and pepper. Stir to combine and then give it a taste. Adjust the salt and lime to your liking and enjoy!

I hope you enjoy this recipe. If you decide to make it, be sure to post a picture on Instagram using #SNGeats.
