Mean Green Tropical Avocado Smoothie

Avocado Smoothie

Recently, my husband asked for an avocado smoothie. I do love a good smoothie, but I am a creature of habit and usually do the same combination of banana, frozen wild blueberries, vanilla plant protein, almond milk, and maybe some seeds. However, I took on the challenge and created this Mean Green Tropical Avocado Smoothie and it’s become one of my favorites!

This recipe makes smoothies for two people. However, if you want just one serving, simply cut the recipe in half! Keep reading for the full how-to.

The Ingredients

The main ingredients for this smoothie are simple, but pack a delicious, tropical flavor.

  1. Ripe Avocado – it should be a little squishy, don’t use a hard avocado!
  2. Frozen Banana – adds creaminess and sweetness
  3. Frozen Mango/Pineapple – brings the tropical flavor and more fruitiness!
  4. Spinach – gotta get your greens in!
  5. Almond Milk – you could also use unsweetened coconut water here and it would be delicious!

While those main ingredients pack a delicious flavor and plenty of nutrition, you may want to add in some additional ingredients, such as:

  • 2 tbsp honey – this was the only add-in I used. It made it just a tad more sweet!
  • chia seeds
  • ground flax seed
  • vanilla protein powder – my favorite is this vanilla one from Nutiva. It’s not overly sweet like some other protein powders!

Making the Avocado Smoothie

Making this avocado smoothie is as easy as making any smoothie! First things first, we’ll cut into the avocado lengthwise. Remove the pit and then use a spoon to scoop out the flesh of the avocado. Add that to the blender. Then, add the remaining ingredients, except the honey. Blend everything together and then give it a taste to see if it needs any extra sweetness.

If you decide you want it a little more sweet, simply add the honey and blend again until everything is combined and smooth. Pour it into your favorite glass and enjoy!
