Have you ever had homemade nut butter? If not, you are totally missing out. This nut butter recipe is incredibly easy to make and uses only 3 ingredients.
All you need is raw nuts of your choice, salt, optional maple syrup, and a food processor. I found my food processor secondhand, but this one is very similar to the one I have! My parents got their food processor for their wedding 30 years ago and my mom still has it and uses it. They are great machines to invest in for your kitchen.

The Method
The most important thing to remember when making home made nut butter is that you cant rush it. Sometimes it will feel like you have been blending forever… and THAT is when the magic happens.
First, start by preheating the oven to 350. Spread out three cups of raw nuts onto a baking sheet. You can use whatever nuts you like, but I used equal parts pecans, walnuts, and almonds. This combination got SO smooth! Roast the nuts in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes. You should be able to smell the nuts, but be careful because they burn fast!
Next, allow the nuts to cool before transferring them to the food processor. This is where you start blending! Just turn it on and let it go for about 5 minutes. You can turn it off as needed to scrape down the sides. After about 5 minutes, my batch was pretty smooth. However, it will depend on the nuts you choose and your food processor!
If by 5 minutes, the nut butter isn’t smooth, just keep going! Once you reach the desired consistency, add sweetener, salt, and flavorings. Continue to blend again til everything is combined and smoothed out. Then, transfer to your desired storage container!
This nut butter will keep at room temperature for a while. My favorite way to enjoy this nut butter is to eat it on toast with sliced banana on top… yum!

3 Ingredient Nut Butter
Equipment
- Food Processor
Ingredients
- 3 cups nuts (raw) I used equal parts almonds, walnuts, and pecans
- 1-2 tbsp pure maple syrup or honey
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spread out nuts on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 5-10 minutes or until fragrant. Keep a close eye on them so that they don't burn.
- Allow nuts to cool for 15-20 minutes.
- Add cooled nuts to food processor and blend for 5 minutes, stopping to scrape down the sides as necessary. Depending on your machine, the nut butter may be smooth by now. If not, you can continue blending until you reach a smooth consistency. If you have already reached the desired level of smoothness, add in salt and maple syrup now.
- Continue blending until the nut butter smooths out again.
- Transfer to desired storage container and enjoy! It will keep at room temperature.
